Who we are

This policy covers Nick Coyle Mortgage Specialist, trading as Nick Coyle Mortgages (NCM). Nick Coyle provides financial advice on behalf of the licensed Financial Advice Provider Freedom Financial Limited (FSP769995). In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean NCM and, where relevant, Freedom Financial Limited.

We are committed to handling your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Information Privacy Principles. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

What we collect

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details such as your name, email address, phone number and suburb.
  • Information about your goals such as whether you are buying a first home, refinancing or investing, and when you plan to act.
  • Financial information needed to give advice or arrange lending, such as income, employment, deposit and KiwiSaver details, existing loans and commitments, property details, identification documents and credit history. We only collect this once you ask us to provide advice or apply for lending.
  • Website and advertising data such as pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location, and which ad or link brought you to us. See the cookies section below.

How we collect it

  • Directly from you, by phone, email, video call or in person.
  • Through forms on this website, including the booking form, which sends your details to us by email.
  • Through our booking tool (Calendly) when you schedule a call.
  • Through lead forms on Facebook or Instagram. When you submit a Meta lead form, Meta passes the details you entered to us.
  • From third parties with your authority, such as your employer, bank, accountant, solicitor or a credit reporting agency, when we prepare a lending application.
  • Automatically through cookies and similar technologies when you use this website.

Why we collect it

  • To respond to your enquiry and book and hold a call with you.
  • To assess your situation and provide financial advice.
  • To prepare, submit and manage lending applications with lenders.
  • To meet our legal obligations, including under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013, the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003, and anti-money laundering laws.
  • To keep in touch about your mortgage, rate reviews and services we think are relevant to you. You can opt out at any time.
  • To understand how people use our website and advertising so we can improve them.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where needed to do the things above:

  • Lenders we work with, including ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac, TSB, SBS, Co-operative Bank and non-bank lenders, when you apply for lending.
  • Freedom Financial Limited, our licensed Financial Advice Provider, for compliance, record keeping and audit.
  • Referral partners such as insurance, KiwiSaver or legal providers, and only after you have confirmed you would like an introduction.
  • Service providers that run our systems, including email and form handling, Calendly for bookings, website hosting, Google Analytics and Meta for advertising measurement. These providers may store data outside New Zealand, mainly in Australia and the United States, and are required to protect it.
  • Regulators, dispute resolution schemes or courts where the law requires it.

We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

This website uses Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel. These set cookies and collect information about your visit, such as the pages you view and whether you book a call. We use this to measure our website and ads and to show relevant ads to people who have visited our site on Facebook and Instagram.

You can limit this by blocking cookies in your browser, using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, and adjusting your ad preferences in your Facebook and Instagram settings. The website still works without cookies.

How we store and protect it

We store information in password-protected systems with access limited to people who need it. Lending applications are handled through secure lender and aggregator platforms. We keep records for as long as needed to provide our services and to meet our legal record-keeping obligations, which for financial advice is generally seven years, and then securely delete them.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. You can also ask us to stop sending you marketing at any time by replying to any message or contacting us below. We will respond to access and correction requests within 20 working days.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. Continuing to use our website or services after an update means you accept the updated policy.
